“Cuarto Oscuro” is a dream in red and black. Figures are barely visible, often blurred, frequently out of focus, reminiscent of tales found within Les Chants de Maldoror. Cuarto Oscuro emerges as a distant memory from the minds of Les Poètes maudits and their intimate circle. Who might have conceived these haunting visions? Perhaps Rimbaud, Verlaine, Baudelaire, Mallarmé, or Ducasse? Maybe even the autocrat Heliogabalus himself? Clarity about its origins remains elusive; one can only speculate that the creator behind this heretical imagery possessed ambiguous intentions.
